Our popular tour to this French battlefield offers a comprehensive walking tour of the Verdun fighting, the longest battle of the Great War that raged from February to December 1916 and cost almost a million casualties. With time to visit the impressive forts, destroyed villages and hugely imposing cemeteries & memorials along with our familiar off the beaten path walks through spectacular yet sobering woodland tracks this tour allows you to get to the heart of the French Poilu and the legendary Battle of Verdun.
Day 1 - Travel from the UK to our Verdun based hotel.
Day 2 - Walk one - Verdun City, a chance to see the often missed martyred city itself. Walk two - Bois Caures to Beaumont - The last gallant stand of Colonel Driant.
Day 3 - Walk three - Ouvrage de Froideterre to Fluery - The German June offensives visits to Fort Douaumont and the French Ossuary & Cemetery.
Day 4 -Walk four - Tunnel Tavannes to Fort Souville - The tide turns for the French visits to the Trench of Bayonets, Fort Vaux & the Faubourg Pave Cemetery.
Day 5 - Travel Home via the Voie Sacre.
