Following the tragic events of 19 August 1942 when a Canadian and British force attempted to raid a fortified Port, we move onto Normandy to study the D-Day invasion of Europe. Launched against Hitler's supposedly impregnable Atlantic Wall, the landings were carried out by the greatest armada in history. This tour will allow you to follow the two assaults as we learn of the RAF’s largest air battle at Dieppe and the lessons learnt two years later by a study of the Normandy Campaign.
Day 1 - Travel to Dieppe.
Day 2 - Walk one - Dieppe Esplanade Walk – from the Hotel we study the landings on Red & White Beaches including a visit to the Operation Jubilee Museum and visiting the numerous memorials that line the promenade. Pm- Associated visits to Pourville Vasterival, Puys and Berneval ending at the towns CWGC overnight in Dieppe.
Day 3 - Walk two - From Sword Beach to Hillman Bunker- following the landing of the 3rd Division we move inland via Hermanville CWGC, through Colleville St Montgomery to the impressive Hillman Bunker complex and discover the story of the Suffolk Regiments Attack.
Walk three "Juno Beach" At 0810hrs on 6th June1944 the Queens Own Rifles of Canada stormed ashore into the fire of a German Strongpoint, but with French Canadian troops and Tanks of the Fort Garry Horse following they took the beach and punched inland. Our walk along the Canadian sector covers Bernieres- Sur- Mer, Courseulles and the Juno Beach Centre finishing at the Canadian Scottish memorial.
Day 4 - Walk four We break away from the coastal operations of D-day to study the infamous attack of German Tank Ace Michael Wittman in his Tiger Tank on the British 7th Armoured Division column at the inland village of Villers Bocage. We walk the wooded glades that cloaked the German heavy Tank unit and see how the ambush unravelled before following the trail of his attack into the village that was ultimately halted by Tank hunting units of the Queens Regiment.
Day 5 - Travel to UK following a visit it Pegasus Bridge and Ranville.
